The Full Story
Many of you have walked in to our flower shop and asked us about our logo and our name. Some of you think we simply love Los Angeles & bikes or that were saying "La" as in "The" in Spanish ...
Here's our story, ready for it?
On February of 2017, my brother Luis Alvarez (21) had gone on a vacation to visit family in Los Angeles, California. On May of 2017, my brother was bike riding on the streets of Los Angeles when he was struck and killed by a bus. That day not only did I lose my best friend, my brother, but I also lost my mom in many ways.
You see, she didn't pass away, but as anyone can imagine the immense pain of losing a child, for so long my mom was just gone.. physically and mentally.
She would be under her blankets knocked out on anti-depressants, she would cry herself to sleep, her chair on our dinning table during dinner was empty, while driving in the car we no longer listened to music, we stopped celebrating birthdays, she would space out and begin crying anytime we would be able to get her out her bed. Our home was pitch black..
I needed to do something about it and after failing in other ways to bring some color back to our lives, I finally knew what I could do. Make her dream come true of one day owning her flower shop!
On April of 2020, after months of gathering licenses, supplies, doing research, & creating a website, I surprised my parents with a dinning table full of supplies and my laptop open with our website up and running and I said "Here it is, this is all yours! Your online flower shop!".
I cannot begin explaining to you the dramatic change it made to not only my mom but to my dad, my younger sister, and myself. We only had a couple weeks before May, which usually was the worst time of the year for my mom because of my brothers death anniversary and Mother's Day; so to turn her head away from that, I rushed her and got her SUPER busy. We began creating arrangements to publish on our website the following weeks from our dinning table. She looked forward to waking up at 5am (before her 9-5) to go to the warehouse and we'd blast music so loud in the car and sing along, while we created arrangements we would again blast music and sing so loud!
We had over 50 orders for Mother's Day with only being a couple weeks online!
May 2020, we moved to our garage where. my dad and grandparents built us our own workshop to complete all the orders we were getting.
So there you go! It was this beautiful seed that with so many tears, effort, and desire, its bloomed into this amazing place we now call home.
February 2022, we opened our doors to our first brick and mortar, where my tia Nayeli and my tio Rene joined.
Every Valentine's Day and Mother's Day you get to see the whole team in action. My mom, my aunt Naye, my husband Angel, and I are creating arrangements for the floor and making orders, my dad Jesus and my uncle Rene are taking turns to do deliveries and help customers, then my little sister PJ, little cousin Genesis, and big little cousin Kevin are helping by cleaning the flowers and keeping our work areas clean and tidy.
It's like each of us have a watering can and we're all watering this beautiful seed.. It would not be possible without any of them.
